Antenova Announces Pentaband RADIONOVA™ Radio Antenna Modules

World’s first production ready pentaband integrated RF antenna module delivers superior performance and global coverage

Cambridge, UK – September 27, 2005– Antenova Ltd., the integrated RF solutions company, today announced the availability of Pentaband RADIONOVA™ radio antenna modules, the first production ready integrated radio antenna module offering design flexibility, cost reduction and time to market advantages.

Pentaband RADIONOVA modules incorporate Antenova’s patented complementary balanced technology with all the key radio frequency (RF) components in a single easy to integrate module. Pentaband RADIONOVA™ radio antenna modules cover the GSM 800, 900, 1800 and 1900 bands as well as the WCDMA 2100 UMTS (3G) bands. This new technology integrates the radio and antenna into a single module, offering a complete solution for the RF section of a mobile terminal in a compact form factor. The module can be installed inside a mobile phone, PDA, or other portable handheld device with minimal or no customisation. Pentaband RADIONOVA greatly speeds up the development phase by enabling platform designs that can address multiple market.

The Pentaband RADIONOVA incorporates Antenova’s advanced balanced antenna technology which is strongly resistant to de-tuning, so the same RADIONOVA module can be used across multiple product designs and will operate at multiple frequencies. RADIONOVA is the only complete RF solution where the wireless performance is unaffected by the module’s position – providing OEMs and ODMs incomparable design flexibility, cost reduction and time to market advantages.

Professor Simon Kingsley, Chief Scientist, Antenova commented, “The use of balanced antenna designs, particularly in radio antenna modules, provides three major advantages: minimal customisation, efficiency, and small size. Antenova’s radio antenna modules perform well in resistance to detuning tests and in power consumption and efficiency tests. And when combined with RF electronics, Antenova’s balanced antenna technology can be optimised together as a single unit leading to further efficiency gains. RADIONOVA™ radio antenna modules are designed to work over the PCB conducting groundplane and require no special ‘keep-out’ areas. These antennas work over fully populated PCBs and have an electronics bay inside. In addition to the RF semiconductors, almost any component can be located in the electronics bays, such as cameras, speakers, etc.”

Antenova will be showcasing the Pentaband RADIONOVA modules at 3G World Congress in Hong Kong, 14-18 November in Hong Kong.
