Artimi Appoints Shuichi Ikumoto as Japan Country Manager

05 June 2006
Ikumoto Joins Artimi’s Pan-Asian Sales Team to Manage Growing Interest in Artimi’s Dual Band UWB Semiconductor Products in Japan

Santa Clara, Calif. and Cambridge, England – June 5, 2006 – Artimi Inc., the single chip Ultra Wideband (UWB) semiconductor company developing low power WiMedia-based complete systems solutions for Certified Wireless USB and Bluetooth applications, announced the appointment of Shuichi Ikumoto as Japan Country Manager. Former Manager of Wireless LAN and Connectivity products at Texas Instruments Japan, Ikumoto will head up Artimi’s sales operation in Japan. Ikumoto joins Artimi’s growing Pan-Asian Sales team which is headquartered in Taipei, Taiwan and supported by a network of distributors and agents in Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Singapore and Greater China.

“Japan is a key market for Artimi, representing many of the world’s leading manufacturers of digital still cameras, camcorders and mobile handsets,” stated Colin Macnab, CEO of Artimi. “Shuichi has an in-depth understanding of our target markets and understands the importance of building relationships with Japanese companies in order to do business. Shuichi’s extensive experience within the communications semiconductor industry and contacts will be of huge benefit in leading Artimi’s activities in Japan and strengthening Artimi’s relationships with our Japanese customers and partners.”

Shuichi has over 15 years experience in the wireless communications industry in Japan. Shuichi was most recently manager of connectivity/WLAN solutions at Texas Instruments Japan. Previous to Texas Instruments, Shuichi held senior sales and account manager roles in the wireless communications divisions of Broadcom Corporation, Yozan Inc. and Conexant Systems, Inc. Shuichi holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Applied Chemistry from Tokyo Denki University.

Macnab continued, “The Japanese government has demonstrated leadership with the early regulatory approval of ultra wideband. We have been closely monitoring its work, and the Ministry’s continued efforts to synchronise with other global regulatory bodies is making the rapid adoption of Certified Wireless USB and high speed Bluetooth over UWB a market reality. Artimi actively participates in other regulatory working groups such CEPT TG3, ITU SG1/TG 1/8 and ETSI TG31a to ensure Artimi delivers the world's first UWB semiconductor product to meet global regulatory requirements.”

Artimi’s WiMedia based semiconductor products are complete system solutions, including radio, baseband, MAC, IO and software, and have been designed from inception for a global market. Artimi’s dual band third generation products support data rates of up to 480 Mb/s and are scaleable to 1Gbit/s and faster when the WiMedia standards evolve to support these data rates. Artimi’s low-power architecture is firmware upgradeable to enable operation at low band (3-5 GHz) and high band (6-9 GHz) operation as adopted by the Bluetooth SIG, in the same device. This capability permits customization for future regulatory, standards and application requirements and can also seamlessly coexist with mobile WiMax and 3G/4G services.
